Cumi-cumi kolosal (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni )

Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni atau biasa di sebut cumi-cumi kolossal, Mempunyai mata sebesar piring makan atau sebesar bola volly, Kait tajam yang akan merobek korbannya menjadi beberapa bagian. Cumi-cumi jenis ini pembunuh mematikan yang hidup di laut antartika yang gelap dan dingin. Spesies ini di ketahui cumi-cumi terbesar yang pertama di temukan. Pertama kali di foto setelah hewan ini terjebak di sebuah jaring perahu pencari ikan. Cumi-cumi betina setengah dewasa yang di teliti di laboratorium wellington, New sealand, mempunyai ukuran lebih dari 18 kaki dan berat 230 kg. jika sampai pada ukuran dewasa hewan ini bisa mencapai 40 kaki.
Hewan ini sangat agresif, sangat berbahaya kata biologist dan ahli cumi-cumi dr steve O’shea yang telah mempelajari hewan dua lengan dan delapan tentakel yang menakutkan yang setiapnya memiliki 25 gigi seperti kait itu. Jika anda terjatuh di perairan di antartika, jika anda tidak meninggal karena dinginnya air. hewan seperti inilah yang akan membunuhmu dalam hitungan detik. Cumi-cumi besar dan sperm whales di kenal sebagai dua hewan yang saling berkelahi sampai mati. karena di temukan bekas luka di kepala sperm whales. Setidaknya terdapat 10 spesies cumi-cumi besar(6 kaki atau lebih) yang ada di samudra.

Ada fakta yang membuktikan ketajaman kail yang terdapat pada lengannya. Seekor paus sperma yang ditemukan di pingiran pantai memiliki bekas luka yang ocok dengan kail yang dimiliki oleh cumi-cumi kolosal.

TEORI PLANETESIMAL

Planetesimal dikemukakan oleh Thomas C.Chamberlin (1843-1982) dan Forest Ray Multon dari Universitas Chicago dari Amerika dalam penelitiannya The Origin of The Earth pada tahun 1916.
